How Do I Find Out If A Computer Virus Or Article Is A Hoax?
We all get them, those email forwards that warn us of all the latest and deadliest computer viruses; but how do you know which ones to believe and which ones to ignore?
There are actually quite a few sites you can visit that deal with these pesky computer virus emails, chain letter scams, and the like.
I’ve listed some sites I know of that will help you determine if that letter is a hoax or not.
- Snopes Urban Legends - This site is the granddaddy. Lots of info on hoaxes & legends online & off.
- About.com Urban Legends - Urban legends & Internet rumors
- Symantec Hoax Threat Explorer - Internet Virus Hoax list.
- Sophos Anti Virus - Sophos’s website is one of the premier internet resources dealing with virus hoaxes and chain letters.
- National Center for Missing & Exploited Children - Check this site for missing children hoaxes to see if a child truly is missing.
Let me know if you know of any other good sites.
