Make Sure You Get Paid On Those Mail In Rebates
I’ve been fielding a lot of calls lately from people who are having issues getting their mail in rebates from manufactures.
The consulting firm Vericours says that manufacturers know that about 40% of offered rebates go unredeemed, so they do their best to lure you in. The companies know it’s a headache to fill out the rebate forms and that a lot of people won’t bother with it, or they’ll just plain forget.
Mathew Gold, an attorney with the Federal Trade Commission says that Fraud with mail in rebates is pretty low, but it does happen. The main reasons people don’t get their rebates are small mistakes like forgetting to sign a form, not putting in the UPC symbol from the box, etc.
To help guarantee you get your rebate, make copies of everything and make sure you send in the mail in rebate via certified mail. If you don’t get anything in 4 - 6 weeks call the company immediately and ask them what’s up.
If they don’t send you the rebate they are in violation of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations. You can file a complaint with the FTC at: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
