Algarve Portugal Vacation Rentals

The Algarve is located in the extreme southern region of Portugal. It has made its name as one of the top tourist destinations in Europe. The Algarve is well known for its beautiful sandy beaches and warm climate. In the summer months it is light for up to 10 hours a day in the Algarve and temperatures can reach well above 30 degrees with sea water temperatures in the early twenties and in winter the temperature is usually between 15 and 18 degrees.

The west coast of the Algarve gets the strongest winds, especially the area up from the tip at Cabo de Sao Vincente to Carrapatera. This means that the west coast is ideal for surfing holidays and other water sports such as kite surfing and wind surfing. With long Atlantic rollers sweeping onto the beautiful beaches, it is hard to find a better place in Portugal to surf. Waves break on the west and south coast which means you can always find a good spot to surf within a short driving distance. The Algarve provides surfers with excellent swell and wind conditions year round, owing to its exposure on the peninsula and it has 500 miles of consistent waves to ride.

The Algarve is home to many great surfing hotspots which have much to offer everyone, whether starting out, or, an old hand. Some of the more popular hotspots are Lagos, Sagres, Carrapateira, Amado and Mareto. All offer exciting surf opportunities for all levels of experience.

The Algarve is home to many surf clubs and camps which aid both beginners and experts in achieving a higher standard of surfing. The most popular of these include The Algarve surf camp in Lagos or Sagres, the Amado surf school and Camp in Carrapateira and The surf experience in Lagos, but there are many others throughout the Algarve. All offer a range of services including beginner lessons.

The best time to surf for a beginner is April-September as the conditions will be more forgiving. If you are an intermediate, you should be fine all year round. Expert servers should avoid the period between July and September . To get to the Algarve it is advised to get Cheap Flights to Faro and then take a train from there. Many of the surf camps offer accommodation or there are a variety of other decent hotels throughout the Algarve which will give you a comfortable stay.
