Oceanside is beach country, and one of the finest year-round vacation destinations in Canada. Boasting spectacular sandy beaches, coastal mountain vistas, and lush temperate forests, Oceanside enjoys the mildest climate in the country, with an annual average of 2,050 hours of sunshine. The tourism region of Oceanside incorporates the holiday communities of Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Nanoose Bay, French Creek, Arrowsmith Coombs Country, and Lighthouse Country. Qualicum Beach and Parksville are Canada’s best family friendly beach destination according to Better Homes and Gardens. The Globe & Mail called these Vancouver Island tourism towns “Canada’s Riviera”. With no less than seven provincial parks and five golf courses located nearby, Oceanside provides a host of outdoor recreational activities including golfing, skiing, surfing, hiking, camping, and caving. Bordered to the east by the Strait of Georgia, Oceanside also offers every watersport imaginable, including sport fishing, canoeing, sea kayaking, diving, beachcombing, sailing, and windsurfing. Parksville and Qualicum Beach are located on the central eastern shores of Vancouver Island. The region is 30kms (35 minutes) drive north of Nanaimo’s Departure Bay Ferry Terminal and 149kms (2 hours) drive north of Victoria on Vancouver Island's southern tip. The Qualicum Beach airport has daily, twenty minute flights to Vancouver. Coombs, Tofino, Ucuelet, Cumberland and Mt. Washington are day trips not to be missed. |
